Most of my work is Raku fired, with my interest in low fired Raku glazes leading me to exploit very simple classical vessel forms. I am able to influence and experiment with them during post-firing reduction, achieving exciting mixed colour lustres with beautiful subtle effects. Particular emphasis on the vibrant spectrum of colours produced by copper oxide, and achieving unusual 'crazing' effects has been a main aim of my work, and I have spent the past 11 years developing my palette of glazes for this purpose.
The nature of Raku pottery means that each piece is unique, and all my work is individually hand thrown and turned on a potter's wheel, sometimes with additional hand modelled details such as handles and feet. I have developed a clay mix that allows excellent survival of the pieces during their firing, whilst still allowing me to produce light, finely thrown pieces which have lovely decorative features. All the glazes are made from raw ingredients, to my own recipes. More on this technique can be found in the 'information' area of my site. My gallery section has a selection of the ceramics that I create. Many of these items will be in stock, or can be made to order. (1-6 weeks to complete). My commissions section shows some of the other ceramics I produce on a one-off basis.
Wedding and trophy commissions are a development from other ranges of ceramics I make, and I also take orders for kitsch animal sculptures and other individual thrown or hand built pieces. Please feel free to call or email me for your requirements, and - enjoy my site!
